More information about Smith's Luau |

 |
Aloha,
Welcome to Smith's Tropical Paradise. Home or the Smith's Hawaiian Luau.
Smith's Tropical Paradise is a 30 acre botanical garden. The emphasis on the garden is polynesian. Flowers, food plants and useful plants from around the islands make up most of the garden. |
| |
| In addition there are many birds around the grounds. The most noticeable of which are the Peacocks. There are many running around and showing off. There are also several albino Peacocks at the gardens. |
 |
| |
 |
Of course it is a family run operation and you will see many of the Smith family running around making sure that everything is going smoothly.
Here Kamika Smith the current manager is talking story at the imu ceremony. The imu is the under ground oven where portions of your dinner are cooked. |
| |
| Uncle Freckles and Auntie Moki make sure that everything is just right. Freckles' (Walter Smith Jr.) father started the Smith's Motorboat Service. His mother is still often in attendance at the Luaus. Uncle Freckles has passed the management on to Kamika but he is still working at the luaus when he is not off island promoting the business. |

At the start of the Luau you will be greeted with a lei and pictures will be taken. You can get copies later if you wish.
After that you have a choice of wandering around the gardens on your own or taking a guided tram ride around the gardens. The tram is included in the cost of the luau. |
| |
| The imu is where the dinner is cooked. At the imu ceremony you will be told of the art of Hawaiian cooking. You will witness the opening of the underground oven (imu) and check out the dinner. It is time to head to the Luau Hale and eat. |
 |
| |
 |
The Luau Hale has a roof to keep the rain out but the sides are open to get the breeze and give it an outdoor atmosphere.
Drinks, music and food (lots of it too). This is where you get to see what Hawaiian food tastes like. I recommend trying a lot of stuff that you have never had before. Then go back and get more of what you like. Talk story with your neighbors drink some more and enjoy. |
| |
| The evening ends with the show. This is at a nearby amphitheater which was built for the show. It is an international show featuring dances inspired from the people who make up Hawaii. |
 |
| |
 |
The favorite dance at the luau is the fire dance which will finish the night for you. Don't let the kids try this one at home. |
